Dual-Core iPhone 5 Details Leak Ahead Of Verizon iPhone 4 Release

With the Verizon iPhone 4 set to be available for pre-order in a couple of weeks (February 10th), many consumers may be ready to take the plunge as the device will no longer be exclusive to AT&T subscribers only. However AT&T may still have something else to hold over Big Red come June/July.

Dual-core iPhone 5 details leak ahead of Verizon iPhone 4 release

According to Electronista and their source, both the upcoming iPad 2 and iPhone 5 will be "reportedly dropping Infineon entirely for their basebands and would instead use hybrid CDMA and GSM chipsets from Qualcomm", "the chip designer already has dual-mode parts with EVDO and HSPA+ support that would give it 3G on both CDMA and GSM carriers".

So in the case of the iPhone 5 (and next-generation iPod Touch as well), we can expect a huge performance boost according to the supplier who divulged this information just before the weekend. What can we expect in terms of a processor? How does a dual-core A5 processor sound over the current single-core A8 found in the Verizon iPhone 4?

While details are still sketchy, if the iPhone 5 that's expected to release on AT&T around June or July get the new processors, expect similar performance like found in the BlackBerry PlayBook and Atrix 4G i.e. it will play your 1080p HD video clips "like running water", as Electronista puts it.

Engadget and Electronista are currently following up on the leaked details so more on this as it develops. Have a good weekend folks.
