Sprint Asks Partners To Remove Carrier IQ Via OTA Update

With Carrier IQ garnering up a lot of bad press lately, it comes as no surprise that Sprint is in damage control mode after bragging, "Carrier IQ can be found on most Android, BlackBerry and Nokia phones" on their network.

Sprint requests partners to remove Carrier IQ

With reports that Carrier IQ is logging messages, photos and videos on phones it is installed on, Sprint is not only defending its actions for including it in their devices (for understanding device performance on network apparently) but also asking its partners to remove it from existing and future devices.

According to recent reports from "sources inside HTC", "as a result of the lawsuits targeting Carrier IQ, Sprint, and other CIQ-using OEMs", Sprint "has asked all of their partners to get rid of Carrier IQ" and we expect an over-the-air update to also roll out shortly that will refresh the devices sans the Carrier IQ software.

No word yet on exactly when this update will roll out but basically the users complained and Sprint appears to be listening. We'll keep you posted as more develops.
