Read Dead Redemption is one of the top selling games this year and while our thorough review covered just about everything you needed to know about this game, we missed out on explaining how to duel and win in the game. How do you duel in Red Dead Redemption?
For starters, in case you are not sure how a real duel works, it's all about speed and aim. In this game, it's about hitting a good spot (body part) and reaching that trigger quicker than your opponent. We gave it a go in the Xbox 360 version and here is how it's done.
Getting your hands near the holster before the draw
You can push the right stick down in order to get your hand closer to the gun, this way when its time for the showdown you just need to hit draw and aim (you can already begin clicking the right trigger to shoot as you aim is approaching the target since the fire isn't instantaneous).
Via automatic mode (with dead eye)
Listen for the "Draw" signal. When you hear/see it, quickly click and hold the left trigger. This will automatically activate the dead eye mode. Since the gun is at holster level, the reticule points to the other gunman's foot. Using the right stick, bring the reticule up to the opponent's body area. There are strobes which basically appear to be zooming in and out of your reticule, only fire when the strobes move in (closer) and when you have reached the body part you wish to fire at (crotch?). The closer the strobes are to each other, the better your score. Whichever guman has a better score wins the duel in Red Dead Redemption. Simple enough?
