Trial Production Of Aluminum iPad Panel Results In Explosion, Injures 57

This isn't the first time we've seen the word Apple and explosion in the same sentence and may not be the last. Reports have come in confirming a explosion at Shanghai-based Riteng Computer Accessory Company has left 23 workers hospitalized and 34 more with minor injuries.

iPad back panel trial production results in explosion

According to local government officials, the explosions at Riteng (a subsidiary of Pegatron), happened on Saturday during the trial production of aluminum iPad back panels. Given that back in Spring we he had already seen how another explosion at the Foxconn factory was blamed on poor extraction of combustible aluminum dust, all signs seem to point to a similar case here.

Now it is important to note that this explosion was caused during the trial production of iPad 2 aluminum back panels and not a new iPad (iPad 3). So it is likely that this is a new factory. We'll keep you posted as more develops.

On a side note, a recent report from DigiTimes suggest that Apple is working on two new iPad models this year, an iPad 3 which will launch sometime in Q1 2012 and an iPad mini that measures in at 7.85-inches and expected to take on the Amazon Kindle Fire sometime at the end of next year.
