While rumors of an iPhone 5 stole the show earlier this year, it never deviated reports of a possible 7-inch iPad in the works as well. Now analysts over at DigiTimes have once again reignited details of a 7.85-inch iPad that will likely go head to head with the Amazon Kindle Fire:
"However, in order to cope with increasing market competition including the 7-inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and the launch of large-size smartphones from handset vendors, Apple has been persuaded into the development of 7.85-inch iPads, the sources indicated."
Smaller iPad 3 to take on Amazon Kindle Fire (report)
Now this of course doesn't mean that there will be no 9.7-inch iPad 3 either as the report indicates the larger of the two will launch first sometime in Q1 2012 while the smaller iPad will be coming in somewhere towards the end of 2012.
Given that the Amazon Kindle Fire is proving fairly successful in the market, it does hint that there is substantial demand for a smaller, cheaper tablet. We'll keep you posted a more develops.
