Apple Looking To Buy Anobit For Close To $500 Million

Apple looks set to make its first purchase under the running of CEO Tim Cook and it appears to be the very familiar flash memory units manufacturer Anobit.

Apple to acquire Anobit for close to $500 million (report)

According to a report, Apple is looking to buy Anobit for somewhere between $400 and $500 million. If Anobit sounds familiar to you then it should as the Israeli based company has been supply its flash memory units powered by MSP technology for a large range of Apple products including the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and MacBook Air. These mobile flash memory chips have been known to better than standard chips thanks to Anobit's technology. The company has more than 95 registered patents and it raised more than $70 million from investors like Intel, Pitango Venture Capital, and Battery Ventures to date.

In addition to its technology being found in the latest iPhone 4S, it is also expected to be utilized for the iPhone 5 given that NAND flash units are more powerful and cheaper.

Anobit and Apple have yet to officially confirm the acquisition. We'll keep you posted as more develops.
