The HTC Thunderbolt is the top Android on Verizon Wireless at the moment and is expected to retain its title right up until the time the Motorola Droid Bionic hits Big Red. While both feature equally sized displays and 4G LTE capability, the Motorola Droid Bionic is a dual-core 1GHz Android whereas the HTC Thunderbolt has a single core clocked at 1GHz.
Buy HTC Thunderbolt or wait for Motorola Droid Bionic?
Customers looking to purchase the fastest Android on Verizon Wireless are now torn apart by these two devices. Sure the HTC Thunderbolt is available now and it has 4G LTE capability, but the latest leaked Verizon roadmap suggest the Droid Bionic is not that far away.
Well it looks like the HTC Thunderbolt just got a speed boost as the recent story of it getting overclocked to 1.8 Ghz, has now been replaced with a faster 2.016GHz kernel by the same developer, Derek Rodriguez.
According to Derek Rodriguez via his Twitter page, the HTC Thunderbolt is very stable at the 2GHz CPU speed and he is still working on improving it. Of course you will need to root your HTC Thunderbolt to utilize this kernel the moment it is released but it still beats waiting in the dark for the Motorola Droid Bionic release date to be officially announced.
While the 2GHz HTC Thunderbolt is still not the same as a dual-core 1GHz Motorola Droid Bionic, if you're anxious to replace your phone already then HTC Thunderbolt is a great buy. We doubt you would consider it a slouch but in case you need more speed there are many options out there to speed up that Thunderbolt like this.
