Samsung Galaxy S Android Gingerbread Confirmed, Nexus S Who?

It's official. Samsung has just announced via Twitter that the Samsung Galaxy S will be getting Android Gingerbread. The Galaxy S phones, which are spread across all 4 carriers in the US, include the Samsung Fascinate, Captivate, Epic 4G & Vibrant.

Samsung Nexus S

Last week in our review of the Samsung Nexus S, we pointed out our disappointments with the smartphone. The dismal 5-megapixel camera, lack of the previously rumored dual-core Orion processor and also the absence of the Super AMOLED 2 display, made us surmise that the key selling feature of the Nexus S was its clean install of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

We also went on further to iterate that if Samsung realized this, they would hold off announcing the release of Android 2.3 Gingerbread for its Galaxy S line until after the initial release of Nexus S (December 16th) so as to not hamper sales of their latest S member.

However now that HTC and LG have announced that their handsets will be getting Gingerbread soon, it looks like Sammy didn't want to be left out.
