Dell Streak Gets Ridiculously Priced In US, Should You Wait?

After a long delay with its release in the US, Dell has officially announced the Dell Streak price and contract options, much to the disappoint of US buyers.
The Dell Streak will be released this Friday with a 2-year AT&T contract at $299.99, or at $549.99 contract-free. If you head on over now to their website you can sign up for a pre-sale which will let you place an order for the device a full day ahead of the August 12 release date.
There is no details on whether the Dell Streak will come with Android 2.1 so at this point we will have to assume that it's Android 1.6 preloaded with the possibility of an update at a later date.
AT&T Dell Streak contract plan overpriced?
The general word on the Web is disappointment with the exorbitant pricing of the Dell Streak's contract plan. Many tech websites are suggesting that Dell and AT&T may have priced themselves out of the general consumer's pocket who will be comparing the Streak with other popular offerings such as the iPhone 4, iPad, Motorola Droid X and HTC Evo 4G (all of which are priced lower on similar 2-year contract plans).
While the Dell Streak is playing both the tablet and smartphone game, Dell/AT&T should have considered pricing the device at $199.99 to remain competitive. As a matter of fact, the Dell Streak is free on contract in the UK.
But like all electronics, if it doesn't sell like hotcakes in the first few weeks you can expect a revised pricing plan or freebies thrown in. So if you don't like the price, just remember that "patience is virtue". Check out the full specs and features below.
